The Song School:
Junior & Youth Choirs

The Song School of Our Lady and the English Martyrs is a Junior Choir programme that aims to inspire young singers to become lifelong musicians. The School places great emphasis on the development of vocal technique, musicianship, and teamwork that will enrich the lives of choristers and the community for generations.

The two choirs sing for a Mass once a term which introduces them to the Church’s rich treasury of sacred music including Gregorian chant, polyphony, classical and romantic repertoire, together with the best of the contemporary.

Young singers emerge from the Song School programme with a deep love for the liturgical arts, enhanced self-confidence, and an ability to work collaboratively. In a time when the arts are underfunded in many schools, Our Lady and the English Martyrs is committed to providing young people with an opportunity to develop their musical sills while growing in faith through their role in the celebration of the Sacred Liturgy.

Members of the Youth Choir have opportunities to sing with the Parish Choir from time to time and progress to one of the Choral Scholarships offered by the church.

The programme is fully subsidised.

The Song School is open by audition to young singers ages 7-17. Prior musical training is not a prerequisite, and the try-out process is informal and fun!
